Research interests include global carbon cycle dynamics, carbon-climate feedbacks, coupled biosphere-atmosphere dynamics, and geophysical data assimilation. Via strong interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers at several academic and research institutions, my long-term goal is to further our understanding of global carbon cycle processes, and thereby improve our ability to predict future atmospheric CO2 concentration levels and forecast its co-evolution with climate. In addition, I am highly interested in the theoretical aspects of data assimilation, and welcome collaborations and discussions on the development of statistical and deterministic methods to improve the credibility of data assimilation tools for large-scale geophysical problems.
Dr. Chatterjee is a Scientist at the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO), primarily working on carbon cycle dynamics and carbon-climate feedback problems. Prior to joining GMAO, he was a NOAA Climate and Global Change Postdoctoral Fellow (2013-2014) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. He received his PhD (2012) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor under Dr. Anna M. Michalak. During this time, he also spent a couple of years as a Visiting Investigator at the Carnegie Department of Global Ecology (Stanford University).
