Dr. Jianjun Jin obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in atmospheric science from Lanzhou University at Lanzhou, Gansu Province, China, in 1998 and 2001, respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science from York University at Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 2009. Prior to joining USRA and GMAO, GSFC in 2012, Jianjun Jin was a post-doctorate fellow firstly at University of Toronto, Canasa, and then in Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institude of Technology between 2008 and 2012.
Jianjun Jin's research involves developing and testing microwave remote sensing observation data assimilation algorithms within GEOS-5 data assimilation system. He implemented the assimilation of space-borne middle atmospheric temperature measurements made by AURA/MLS in the MERRA-2 reanalysis. He is currently developing the algorithms for assimilating GPM/GMI, TRMM/TMI, and GCOM-W1/AMSR2 observations in all-sky weather conditions. Jianjun Jin studied middle atmospheric chemistry and transport and stratosphere-troposphere exchange using satellite measurements and global climate models. His research also involved tropospheric air pollution using trajectory and global chemistry transport models. Jianjun Jin received the award "Outstanding Scientific Contribution By A New GMAO Member" from GMAO, GSFC in 2015.
Dr. Jin has served as a reviewer for papers submitted to Gesphysical Resarch Letters (GRL), JGR-Atmospheres, Atmospheric Chemistry and Phyics (ACP), and Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, as well as for proposals submitted for NASA ROSES solicitations.
