Michael is currently the Art Director at NASA Goddard's Conceptual Image Lab. Here he guides the day to day creative on projects both within and outside the studio to ensure that artistic and technical quality is upheld. In addition, he reviews and approves designs, artwork, and animation developed by artists. He also develops design concepts, oversees the visual appearance of projects and identifies areas where innovation can improve productivity.
Prior to working at NASA Goddard, he was freelancing for over 8 years. During that time he created a wide-range of art and animation for clients, such as Discovery Channel, Smithsonian Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel, PBS, History Channel and NASA.
He also worked for the National Geographic Television Art Department for 10 years. In that position he became an accomplished artist and animator, developing elements for numerous Emmy award-winning shows such as National Geographic ‘Explorer’ and ‘Specials’.
He has experience in all phases of animation production, including Design, 3D animation, 2D animation, Motion Graphics, Visual Effects, and Compositing. He also has experience in the use of various software packages including Maya, After Effects, zBrush, Photoshop and various effects plug-ins.
