Dr. Pawan Gupta is a Research Scientist at the Goddard Earth Sciences Technology and Research (GESTAR), Universities Space Research Association. He has completed his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He focused on retrieval of particulate matter air quality at the surface from satellite observations during his time in graduate school. His main research expertise is in the application of satellite remote sensing for air quality monitoring and assessment around the world. He is also interested in research on air quality in growing mega cities, spatial and temporal trends in aerosols over urban regions, radiative effects of aerosols, development of statistical models to estimate surface level particulate matter air quality, aerosols and clouds data validation and retrieval of cloud products from UV satellite measurements. Dr. Gupta has also worked with GEOS5 aerosol group. He evaluated GEOS 5 aerosol and air quality parameters over USA and globally. Dr. Gupta currently works with MODIS dark target aerosol groups and involved in development and validation of aerosols products from various NASA satellites. He is also involved in developing, conducting, and managing remote sensing technical workshops and capacity building activities for the NASA Applied Sciences Program (ARSET). He leads the ARSET’s Health and Air Quality training program, which focuses on the application of satellite imagery/data/tools to environmental decision-making activities.
