In 1999 Doug was hired as Executive Assistant to the Director/Vice Chancellor/Dean of Scripps Institution of Oceanography (University of California, San Diego). In 2006 he became the Assistant Vice Chancellor at Scripps, responsible for leading all administrative and daily operations components of the institution, including budget/finance, human resources, IT support, media relations, strategic marketing/communications (including the Scripps and Birch Aquarium web sites), sponsored research administration (contracts/grants), capital/space planning, facilities management, and the Marine Science Development Center (a research-oriented machine shop focused on developing ocean instrumentation for Scripps scientists).
In 2017 Doug served as Business Development Solutions Architect for Global Science & Technology, Inc. Since July of 2018, Doug has served as Senior Outreach Specialist for GST, Inc. at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center. In his current role—on behalf of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD)—Doug helps plan and coordinate logistics and science communications/outreach support for the traveling NASA exhibit and Hyperwall. Doug also provides writing/editing and general administrative support for NASA’s Earth Science Division (ESD).
