Dr. Li's research focuses on chemistry-climate interactions. Dr. Li investigates how stratospheric ozone layer evolution affects climate in the troposphere and ocean, and how atmosphere-ocean coupling affects stratosphere. Dr. Li's research interests also include stratospheric dynamics and transport, stratospheric water vapor and chemical feedback, and Antarctic sea ice.
Dr. Feng Li received a B.S. and a M.S. in atmospheric sciences from Nanjing University, China in 1993 and 1996, respectively, and his Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005. His Ph.D. thesis was a study of gravity waves in the mesopause using lidar and airglow imager measurements. Dr. Li joined GESTAR in May 2011 after four years with GEST/UMBC; prior to that, he worked at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher for two years.
