RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Cetinic combines in-ocean observations of the phytoplankton diversity and biogeochemistry with remote sensing tools, with the idea of developing new, better ways to observe ocean carbon cycle from space.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Ivona Cetinic graduated from University of Zagreb with an engineering / master degree in Biology. After working for two years at the Department of Biology, University of Zagreb, as a research and teaching assistant, she transferred to University of Southern California, where she obtained her PhD in biological oceanography in 2009. That same year, she started her postdoctoral appointment at University of Maine, where she worked until 2015, first as a research scientist, then as a research professor. Currently, she is a USRA scientist working at NASA GSFC Ocean Ecology Laboratory. Her research focuses on developing new ways to resolve ocean diversity and biogeochemistry from space. She is science lead for ocean biogeochemistry under PACE mission, and a NASA Project Scientist for EXPORTS campaign. She is an instructor at NASA Ocean Optics class, taught at University of Maine.
