BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Niama Boukachaba is a visiting associate scientist working at the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. She is working on two different projects. The first project involves evaluating gridded MERRA-2 data assimilation innovations (called Gridded Innovations and Observations - GIO), and associated datasets such as OmF and OmA, for weather and climate case studies. The second project involves defining an optimal comprehensive cloud-clearing strategy for AIRS, CrIS and IASI with the ultimate goal of assimilating adaptively thinned cloud-cleared hyperspectral data. Both projects are aimed at enhancing GMAO’s emergent capabilities in data assimilation and contributing to existing projects and research.

Dr. Boukachaba received her PhD in atmospheric physics and satellite data assimilation from the National Center of Meteorological Research (CNRM) of Météo-France and National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse (INPT), France. Her works were focused on the improvement of the assimilation of IASI radiances over land in the regional and global French NWP models. She has two masters degrees: one in Space Science and Technology, obtained at the African Regional Center for Space Science and Technology (CRASTE-LF), which is affiliated with the United Nations and based in Rabat, Morocco, and the other in Green Engineering & Analytical Methodologies and Management of Biodiversity from Cadi Ayyad University, Marrakesh, Morocco.
